Rivers Power Shift Deepens as Deputy Governor Crosses Over to APC

The political realignment unfolding in Rivers State gathered further momentum on Sunday as Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu formally joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), reinforcing the ruling party’s expanding grip on the state’s political structure.

Odu completed her registration at her polling unit in Akabuka, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, where she was received by party supporters. The exercise was followed by celebratory chants of “On Your Mandate We Shall Stand,” a refrain strongly associated with President Bola Tinubu and the APC’s national campaign identity.

Her defection follows closely on the heels of Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s recent move to the APC after a high-level meeting with President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. Fubara was subsequently registered into the party by the Rivers APC Chairman, Tony Okocha, acting on instructions from the party’s national leadership.

In a further consolidation of the party’s structure in the state, APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, later named Fubara as the party’s leader in Rivers State, a move widely seen as formalising the governor’s authority within the party.
