A Lagos-based lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, has drawn attention to a growing number of paternity-related disputes following his involvement in two separate cases within the space of a week, one of which was heard in open court.
In a post shared on social media, legal practitioner Inibehe disclosed that both cases involved allegations of paternity fraud and marital infidelity. According to him, one of the matters proceeded to court, where his client was required to give evidence.
Effiong recounted that during the court session, his client became emotional while testifying about the alleged paternity fraud by his wife. He stated that the woman involved did not admit wrongdoing, instead attributing responsibility to her husband.
The lawyer also referenced another case handled earlier in the same week, noting that the affected individual similarly broke down while recounting his experience. Effiong pointed to DNA testing as a key factor in establishing facts in both matters.
Drawing from his experience representing parties on both sides of matrimonial disputes, Effiong stated that such cases appear to occur more frequently than is commonly assumed.
