The Ghana Police Service has arrested a self-proclaimed prophet, Evans Eshun, popularly known as Ebo Noah, over a prophecy predicting a global flood on December 25, 2025, which reportedly triggered public panic.
The arrest was confirmed in a statement published on the official website of the Ghana Police Service on Wednesday.
According to the police, Eshun was taken into custody by the Inspector General of Police’s Special Cyber Vetting Team as part of ongoing efforts to monitor and curb cyber-related activities, particularly in the lead-up to 31st night religious services.
The police said the action followed widespread online reports and public concern over declarations and prophecies capable of causing fear, anxiety or public disorder.
“The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of a man identified as Evans Eshun, also known as Ebo Noah, by the Inspector General of Police’s Special Cyber Vetting Team,” the statement said.
It added that while investigations were ongoing, the police had yet to disclose specific allegations against the suspect or the precise nature of the conduct under review.
The statement recalled that security agencies had repeatedly warned individuals and religious groups against making public predictions, particularly during end-of-year religious activities, that could incite panic or threaten public peace. Such actions, the police noted, could be examined under existing laws on public order, communication and cyber-related offences.
Police sources said Eshun remains in custody to assist investigations, stressing that no formal charges, court dates or bail conditions have been announced. Authorities also said it was unclear whether other persons were being investigated in connection with the case.
The police urged the public to remain calm and avoid speculation, assuring that due process would be followed and that the suspect remains innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
The arrest follows reports last month that some residents rushed to secure spaces in one of eight arks reportedly constructed by Eshun, who claimed he received a divine revelation that the world would be submerged by massive flooding on December 25.
The prophet had claimed that only those inside the arks would be saved, a declaration that sparked panic, curiosity and widespread reactions on social media across Ghana and beyond.
