NCAA Moves to Automate Monitoring of Night-Shift Personnel

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has announced plans to automate the monitoring of its personnel on night duty as part of efforts to strengthen oversight and prevent operational lapses that could leave passengers stranded at airports.

The Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the NCAA, Michael Achimugu, disclosed that his department was in the final stages of implementing the automated monitoring system. He made the announcement in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

According to Achimugu, the initiative is aimed at enforcing higher standards of accountability among staff working night shifts, which he described as a critical period in aviation operations. He stressed the need for a system that allows management to verify, in real time, the presence of on-duty officers at airport terminals.

He explained that automation would eliminate situations where personnel expected to be on duty are unavailable, thereby reducing delays and improving passenger experience. Achimugu added that night hours are particularly sensitive, as passengers are more vulnerable and require prompt and efficient service.

He emphasised that the planned system aligns with the NCAA’s commitment to a work culture that prioritises efficiency, responsibility and the protection of consumers at all times.
