Speculation over a possible political realignment in Zamfara was dismissed on Saturday after the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) said it had not received any request from Governor Dauda Lawal to join the party.
In a statement issued in Gusau, the APC’s Publicity Secretary in the state, Malam Yusuf Idris, described reports suggesting that the governor had written to the party seeking membership as false. He said the claims, which circulated widely across the state, did not originate from any recognised party source.
Idris stated that the party had encountered what he described as a fabricated report attributed to an individual identified as Tambarin Gusau, alleging that Lawal had formally expressed interest in defecting to the APC. He said the party had not received any such correspondence and was unaware of any move by the governor to leave the Peoples Democratic Party.
According to him, the APC operates established procedures for handling party affairs, including membership and defections, and no such process had been initiated in relation to the governor.
The party spokesman urged party members and residents of Zamfara State to disregard the reports, describing them as misleading and unsupported by facts.
