Tinubu Returns from Abu Dhabi Summit with Nigeria–UAE Economic Pact

Nigeria’s economic engagement with the Middle East advanced this week as President Bola Tinubu concluded official activities in the United Arab Emirates and returned to the country following the 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week.

During the summit, Nigeria entered into a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement with the UAE, a deal designed to strengthen bilateral trade and investment while expanding cooperation in sectors such as energy, infrastructure, agriculture, mining and renewable energy. The agreement also provides for enhanced technology transfer between both countries.

Addressing participants at the event, the president disclosed plans for a joint Nigeria–UAE INVESTOPIA to be hosted in Lagos in February, with the aim of attracting international investors and showcasing opportunities within the Nigerian economy.

Tinubu also told the forum that Nigeria is targeting the mobilisation of up to 30 billion dollars annually in climate and green industrial financing as part of ongoing reforms to accelerate the country’s energy transition and broaden access to electricity nationwide.

The president returned to Nigeria on Saturday after attending the summit alongside members of his cabinet
