Security concerns resurfaced in parts of Kaduna State on Monday night following the abduction of a retired photojournalist, Malam Umar Usman, from his home, prompting an immediate response from the state police command.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, confirmed the incident on Tuesday in Kaduna, stating that Usman was taken at about 9:00 p.m. from his residence in Danhonu II community, Millennium City, within Chikun Local Government Area. He said the journalist was abducted by suspected bandits.
According to Hassan, the command has commenced an investigation and rescue operation aimed at securing Usman’s release without harm. He disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, had ordered the deployment of a team of operatives to track the abductors.
Usman is a former staff member of Africa Independent Television (AIT), Kaduna Station, and the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Kaduna, where he served before retiring.
The police spokesperson appealed to residents of the area to cooperate with security agencies by providing any information that could assist ongoing efforts to locate the abducted journalist and facilitate his safe return.
