Super Eagles Hit by Key Injuries Ahead of AFCON Knockout Clash with Mozambique

Nigeria’s Super Eagles are facing injury setbacks as they prepare for their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Round of 16 match against Mozambique on Monday at the Complexe Sportif de Fès.

Team Media Officer Promise Efoghe confirmed that defender Ryan Alebiosu attended training on Friday but did not take part in drills while recovering from a leg injury. Striker Cyriel Dessers has been ruled out of the tournament entirely due to a thigh injury and has been advised to return to his club for proper rehabilitation.

Midfielder Tochukwu Nnadi also missed training after coming down with a cold, though his condition is being closely monitored.

Despite the injury concerns, head coach Eric Chelle has urged the squad to stay focused, emphasising the need for discipline, intensity, and full commitment in knockout football. “The coach reminded the players that knockout matches demand total focus from the first minute,” Efoghe said.

The Super Eagles will continue preparations in Fès, fine-tuning tactics and fitness ahead of the crucial Round of 16 clash.
