Israel’s Foreign Minister, Gideon Saar, has praised the United States following an overnight operation in Venezuela that led to the arrest of President Nicolás Maduro, describing Washington’s action as an example of global leadership.
In a statement shared on social media platform X on Saturday, Saar said Israel stood in solidarity with the Venezuelan people, whom he said had endured years of repression under Maduro’s rule. He welcomed what he described as the removal of an illegitimate leader and expressed hope for the restoration of democratic governance in the South American nation.
According to the Israeli foreign minister, the development offers an opportunity for Venezuela to move away from what he characterised as authoritarianism and criminal networks and to rebuild its international relationships.
Saar added that Israel looked forward to a future in which Venezuela returns to democratic principles and establishes cordial relations with other states.
