Osimhen Set to Lead Super Eagles in AFCON Semi-Final Against Morocco

Nigeria will head into their Africa Cup of Nations semi-final meeting with Morocco under new on-field leadership, with Victor Osimhen taking over captaincy duties for the tie.

The Napoli striker steps into the role following the enforced absence of Wilfred Ndidi, who is unavailable after accumulating two yellow cards during the tournament. Ndidi was first booked in Nigeria’s round-of-16 win over Mozambique before receiving another caution in the quarter-final against Tunisia.

Osimhen is familiar with the responsibility, having captained the Super Eagles in their final group-stage fixture against Uganda. His elevation to the role comes after he was named vice-captain of the national team on the eve of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
