The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed reports circulating in some quarters claiming that it has released a timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general elections.
In a statement, the Commission described the reports as false and misleading, stressing that no official timetable or schedule has been issued for the conduct of the 2027 polls.
INEC reaffirmed that it operates strictly in accordance with the law, noting that the Electoral Act, 2022 clearly outlines the timeline for the release of election notices.
According to the Commission, Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022 mandates INEC to publish a notice of election not later than 360 days before the date fixed for a general election. It added that any timetable or schedule released outside this legal framework could not have originated from the Commission.
INEC assured Nigerians that the official timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general elections would be released at the appropriate time and in full compliance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), and the Electoral Act, 2022.
The Commission said the timetable would be communicated through its verified and established channels when available.
INEC also urged the public and the media to disregard the purported timetable and rely solely on information published on its official platforms for accurate and authoritative updates.
