Proceedings are underway at the Presidential Villa in Abuja as Acting Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, arrived for his decoration by President Bola Tinubu.
Disu, who was appointed in an acting capacity on Tuesday, previously served as Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Alagbon. He arrived at the Villa accompanied by members of his family for the formal decoration to the rank of Inspector-General of Police.
His appointment follows the resignation of the former Inspector-General, Kayode Egbetokun, who reportedly stepped down citing pressing family considerations. President Tinubu accepted the resignation and expressed appreciation for Egbetokun’s years of service to the Nigeria Police Force.
In line with the provisions of the Police Act 2020, the President is expected to convene a meeting of the Nigeria Police Council to consider Disu’s appointment as substantive Inspector-General. Following the Council’s deliberation, his nomination will be forwarded to the Senate for confirmation.
The formal processes required under the law are expected to take place after the decoration ceremony at the Villa.
