Delta Philanthropist, Henry Ofili Conferred with Kwame Nkrumah Award for Grassroots Development

The African Network for Accountability (ANFA) has conferred the Kwame Nkrumah Special Award of Recognition for Philanthropic Leadership on Henry Ifechukwu Ofili, citing his contributions to grassroots development and humanitarian service in Delta State.

The award was presented on Saturday in Asaba during a ceremony where the Global President of ANFA, represented by the country director Dr Azo Monday, delivered a keynote speech highlighting Ofili’s community interventions and commitment to inclusive development.

Speaking at the event, Monday described the recognition as more than a ceremonial honour, saying it reflects the enduring values of service, sacrifice and strategic philanthropy that continue to shape Africa’s future.

According to him, the award draws inspiration from the Pan-African vision of Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first president, whose philosophy emphasised unity, self-reliance and people-centred development across the continent.

Monday noted that Ofili’s initiatives through the Henry Ifechukwu Ofili Foundation demonstrate a model of philanthropy focused on responsibility and measurable impact rather than public recognition.

He cited a housing project in Ezi community in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State as an example of such interventions. The project includes eight residential flats of one-bedroom and two-bedroom units, built to accommodate teachers and National Youth Service Corps members serving in rural areas.

The ANFA president said improved accommodation for teachers and corps members contributes to strengthening rural education systems and enhancing learning conditions for children in underserved communities.

Monday further stated that Ofili’s humanitarian outreach to persons living with disabilities and support for community empowerment programmes reflects a leadership approach rooted in compassion, inclusion and sustainable development.

The award, he said, is conferred after a merit-based evaluation of leaders whose initiatives advance inclusive growth and strengthen community structures.

“Today we celebrate not just a philanthropist but a development strategist whose work demonstrates that meaningful change is driven by deliberate investment in people and communities,” Monday said.

He expressed hope that the recognition would inspire emerging leaders to pursue initiatives that advance social impact across Africa.

In his response, Henry Ifechukwu Ofili expressed appreciation to the African Network for Accountability (ANFA) for the recognition, describing the honour as a motivation to deepen his commitment to community development.

He said the award, inspired by the legacy of Kwame Nkrumah, serves as a reminder that meaningful progress in Africa must be driven by service, collaboration and sustained investment in people. Ofili dedicated the recognition to the communities his foundation serves and reaffirmed his resolve to continue supporting initiatives that promote education, empowerment and inclusive growth.

The ceremony concluded with congratulations to Ofili and a call for greater commitment from private citizens and institutions toward community-driven development initiatives across the continent.
