Cyclist Emmiwuks Pauses Nigeria-to-USA Bicycle Journey In Mauritania, Returns Home For Treatment And Visas

Emmanuel Myam, the 25-year-old Nigerian adventurer known as Emmiwuks, has temporarily halted his ambitious solo bicycle journey from Nigeria to the United States upon reaching Mauritania, announcing a return to Nigeria for medical treatment, visa interviews, and document sorting.

In a social media update on Monday, Emmiwuks explained that “When I got to Mauritania, I had to pause and make a tough call to head back to Nigeria and sort out some important things: my documents, medical treatment, visa interviews, and a few other necessary matters… But I’m thankful that things are finally falling into place, and tonight I’m on my way back to Nigeria for my treatment and visa interviews.”

He thanked supporters for their concern during a nearly week-long silence, assuring “This journey is far from over, we keep moving forward. Together we ride. Together we rise.”

Emmiwuks launched his “NIG2USA” mission in July 2025 from Lagos State University gate, aiming to raise awareness and support for orphans and internally displaced persons across Africa, particularly in his native Benue State.

The Benue indigene, who gained fame in 2022-2023 by cycling from Makurdi to Lagos to meet Davido after a health scare, has pedaled through numerous West African countries, including Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, Liberia, Guinea-Bissau, and The Gambia, documenting milestones like Day 127 in Gambia.

The challenging trek involves crossing the Sahara and multiple borders, with plans to ship his bicycle across the Atlantic for the American leg.

Fans praised his resilience, with many expressing relief at the update and pledging continued support.

Emmiwuks’ journey has inspired widespread admiration for its humanitarian focus and determination, as he vows to resume soon: “Naija here I come 🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬.”
