2027: APC disqualifies Senator Sharafadeen Alli from Oyo gubernatorial primary

Ahead of Thursday’s gubernatorial Primaries, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has disqualified one of its governorship aspirants in Oyo state, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, from contesting in Thursday’s gubernatorial primary in the state

A source within the party said the decision was taken after it was found that Alli had been collecting salary both as a serving senator and as an Oba in Ibadaland.

According to the source, the arrangement contravenes civil service rules and made him ineligible to participate in the exercise.

The disqualification comes days before the APC holds its primary to select a candidate for the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State.

The development also ends speculation that Alli had been chosen as the party’s consensus candidate. In recent weeks, reports had circulated suggesting he enjoyed the backing of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and senior APC leaders in the state for the governorship ticket.

With Alli out of the race, other aspirants are expected to proceed with the primary scheduled for Thursday. The outcome will determine who flies the party’s flag in the 2027 election.
