Political activity within the All Progressives Congress (APC) is set to intensify in Kano following the return of the party’s former national chairman, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, from the United Kingdom, as the party prepares for the expected defection of the state governor.
Dr Ganduje arrived in Abuja from London aboard a British Airways flight at about 5.30 a.m. on Monday, according to a statement issued by his Chief of Staff, Muhammad Garba. He is expected to travel onward to Kano later in the day for a series of political engagements.
The statement said the former governor would take part in the APC’s electronic registration of members, a process introduced during his tenure as national chairman of the party. He is also expected to be involved in activities linked to the planned reception of Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, who is expected to formally join the APC.
Ganduje’s return follows a private visit to London, where he attended the graduation ceremony of his daughter, Fatima, at King’s College London. Fatima, who is married to Idris Ajimobi, son of the late former Oyo State governor, Abiola Ajimobi, completed a Master’s degree at the institution on Thursday.
The developments come amid heightened political manoeuvring in Kano, as the APC prepares to formally welcome new entrants and consolidate its structures in the state ahead of upcoming party activities.
