Algeria has advanced to the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations following a narrow extra-time victory over the Democratic Republic of the Congo, setting up a meeting with Nigeria in the last eight of the tournament.
The round-of-16 contest between the Desert Warriors and the Leopards ended without a goal after regulation time, as both teams failed to convert chances across the 90 minutes. The deadlock was eventually broken during extra time, with Algeria scoring the decisive goal to seal a 1–0 win.
The result keeps Algeria’s campaign alive and confirms a quarter-final clash with the Super Eagles of Nigeria. The fixture is scheduled to take place at the Marrakesh Stadium on January 10.
Nigeria and Algeria will meet with a place in the semi-finals at stake, as both sides continue their pursuit of the continental title.
