Tinubu Appoints Olugbemisola Odusote as New Director-General of Nigerian Law School

The leadership of the Nigerian Law School has gotten a new leader in the person of Dr Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote, who was appointed as the new Director-General by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

This was made known by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. The appointment is for a four-year term beginning on January 10, 2026. She will take over from Professor Isa Hayatu Chiroma, whose tenure ends on January 9, 2026, after eight years in office.

Odusote, who is currently the Deputy Director-General and Head of the Lagos Campus, will become the first woman to serve as Director-General since the institution was established in 1962. She joined the Nigerian Law School in 2001 as a lecturer and has since held several senior academic and administrative positions, including Head of Academic Department, Director of Academics, and Head of Campus.

A graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University, Odusote obtained her Bachelor of Laws degree from the institution and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1988. She also earned a Master of Laws degree from the same university, specializing in company and commercial law, before completing a PhD in Law at the University of Surrey in the United Kingdom, where her research focused on public law and the administration of justice.

Her academic career includes a period as a visiting scholar at Nottingham Trent University in the UK. She has published in local and international law journals and presented papers at various legal education conferences. Odusote has also served on committees of both the Council of Legal Education and the Nigerian Bar Association.

As Director-General, she will oversee the academic, administrative, and strategic affairs of the Nigerian Law School across its campuses and serve as the institution’s principal link with the Council of Legal Education, the Body of Benchers, and the Nigerian Bar Association.
