Kenneth Okonkwo Urges Peter Obi’s Supporters to Register With ADC Ahead of 2027

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kenneth Okonkwo, has called on supporters of former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, to formally register with the party as preparations begin for the 2027 general elections.

Okonkwo made the call on Friday while speaking on The Morning Brief, a programme aired on Channels Television. He argued that Obi’s supporters who have not joined the ADC could no longer be regarded as genuine members of the “Obidient” movement, describing their continued affiliation outside the party as inconsistent with its current political direction.

Reflecting on his time in the Labour Party, Okonkwo said it was a strategic mistake to encourage supporters to operate across multiple political platforms. He added that he was pleased Obi had since reviewed that position, noting that the former governor recently advised his followers, during an X Space interview, to register with the ADC.

He described the ADC as a party founded on the principles of internal democracy, insisting that the leadership would not compromise by imposing candidates or accommodating special interests. According to him, the party’s insistence on discipline and due process was central to its vision.

Okonkwo further claimed that the ADC enjoys significant support in the South-East, alleging that politicians operating outside the party were, by implication, aiding the re-election prospects of President Bola Tinubu.

Welcoming Obi’s recent move to the ADC, Okonkwo said he was committed to supporting whoever emerges as the party’s presidential candidate after its primaries ahead of the 2027 election.
