The All Progressives Congress (APC) has moved to quell rising public discussion over its 2027 presidential ticket, dismissing reports that Vice-President Kashim Shettima may be replaced as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate.
In a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the APC said recent media reports suggesting a possible change in the vice-presidential slot were unfounded. The party noted that while earlier reports had been indirect, the speculation had intensified with the circulation of names of individuals purportedly being considered as replacements.
The APC described the claims as speculative and without basis, insisting that no such discussions were taking place within the party. It urged media organisations to avoid amplifying what it termed rumours attributed to unnamed and unreliable sources.
The party also drew attention to existing electoral regulations, noting that the statutory ban on political activities remains in place. It said its current priority is to support President Tinubu and Vice-President Shettima in the implementation of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
According to the statement, the APC is focused on consolidating reforms aimed at economic transformation, expanding prosperity and improving living standards across the country, rather than engaging in premature political debates.
The party further appealed to ministers, senior government officials and party leaders to refrain from actions or comments that could fuel speculation. It said officials should instead concentrate on their responsibilities in government and party affairs, and on supporting the policies and programmes of the Tinubu administration.
