Senator Orji Kalu, representing Abia North Senatorial District, has pledged to work vigorously towards securing Abia State for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
Kalu made the pledge during his annual New Year visit to the Chairman of the APC in Ebonyi State, Chief Stanley Okoro-Emegha, at Ekoli in Edda Local Government Area.
The former governor of Abia State said he would deploy all available political resources to ensure that the APC dislodges the Labour Party-led government in Abia at the next election cycle.
“I will support President Bola Tinubu and the APC governorship candidate. I will put everything into the field to ensure a landslide victory for the APC in Abia,” Kalu said.
He noted that while the incumbent governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Oti, remains his personal friend, his political focus is firmly on ensuring total victory for the APC in the state.
Speaking on governance and security, the senator urged state governors to take responsibility for safeguarding lives and property within their domains rather than relying solely on the Federal Government.
Recalling his tenure as governor, Kalu said Abia enjoyed relative peace and security under his leadership at a time when other states were battling serious security challenges. He commended the Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, for maintaining peace and stability in the state, urging other governors to emulate his approach.
Kalu explained that his annual New Year visit to the Ebonyi APC chairman was inspired by Chief Okoro-Emegha’s long-standing loyalty and commitment.
Describing the party chairman as a trusted ally, Kalu said he had known him from childhood and credited him as one of the individuals who contributed to his successes in public office.
He added that upon introducing Okoro-Emegha to former Ebonyi State Governor, Senator David Umahi, he had emphasised the importance of loyalty, a quality he said has been consistently demonstrated and carried forward under the current administration of Governor Nwifuru.
