2027 Election: Peter Obi Defects to ADC

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, has officially defected to the coalition-backed African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Obi announced his defection on Wednesday, December 31, in Enugu, ahead of the 2027 general election.

The former Anambra State governor said his decision to join the ADC was driven by the need to reposition the country and embark on what he described as a rescue mission for Nigeria.

According to him, the move signals the beginning of a new political journey aimed at addressing the nation’s challenges and restoring hope to Nigerians.

“We are ending this year with the hope that in 2026 we will begin a rescue journey,” Obi said.

He also vowed that opposition forces would resist any attempt to rig the 2027 elections, stressing that such resistance would be carried out through lawful means.

Obi further called on opposition leaders across the country to close ranks and work together, urging them to unite as one family under the leadership of former Senate President, David Mark, in order to rescue Nigeria.
